A Between Tenants Agreement offers credit-worthy landlords a way to automatically maintain service without interruption during times when units are vacant.   Under a BTA, when a tenant notifies us that they are moving, the account automatically reverts to the landlord's name until a new tenant signs up for service.

If AEL&P must end service for a tenant due to non-payment of their account, we call the landlord to determine if the service should remain on, going forward as the landlord's responsibility.  If the landlord prefers, the power will be disconnected.   Lacking contact with the landlord, the account is placed in the landlord's name and written notification of this action is given.

Our tariff provides for opening one new account within a 12-month period without paying a connection fee.  Additional new accounts are charged a $10 fee.   Another advantage of a BTA is that this charge is waived because the BTA accounts are automated.
