Alaska Electric Light and Power Company is seeking an individual to fill the following position:

SCADA Technician/Instrumentation Technician

Below is a brief list of some of the duties of this position:

  • Install and maintain AEL&P SCADA system including programming and troubleshooting of RTUs and SCADA Masters.  Configuration of communication lines between IEDs and RTUs and between RTUs and Masters.

  • Install and maintain AEL&P communications systems including powerline carrier systems, VHF equipment, 900 MHz radio systems.

  • Troubleshoot problems with voice and data circuits.

  • Candidate must complete AEL&P training and certification as powerplant operator within one year.

  • Travel in single engine fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.  Periodic overnight stays in remote locations required.

  • May be assigned to work at any company facility for which qualified.

  • Must have valid drivers license.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of SCADA systems.  Experience with Survalent systems a plus.  Strong background in electronics technology and/or instrumentation.  Knowledge of Modbus, DNP and Ethernet communications protocols preferred.  Two-year associate degree in electronics required.  Good knowledge of electrical theory and electrical systems operation.  Prior experience with electrical generation preferred.  Ability to interpret and work with electrical/electronic schematic and control drawings.  Excellent computer skills required.  Must be detail oriented and able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

This position is represented by IBEW Local #1547.  Pay rate is specified in the IBEW/AEL&P agreement, currently $36.67 per hour.
