Alaska electric light and power company is seeking an individual for the following position:

Hydroelectric Powerplant Electrician/Operator

Snettisham Power plant (Remote site)

Below is a brief list of some of the duties that encompass this position:

  • Performs electrical maintenance and operation of the Snettisham Project generators, governors, control systems, power supply systems (AC and DC), and auxiliary equipment including pumps, motors, fans, and auxiliary diesel engine generator sets.

  • Functions as powerplant operator.  In emergencies, operates the Snettisham plant on local control.  Performs routine and emergency switching, and switching necessary for clearances.

  • Operates mobile power equipment such as snowplows, graders, front-end loaders cranes, snow tracks, light and heavy-duty trucks and other equipment as required.

  • Performs mixed duties of a general nature necessary for the proper maintenance of all buildings and facilities which includes roads, walkways, water and sewer systems, heating systems, and fire protection equipment.

  • May be assigned to work at any company facility for which qualified.

The Snettisham Project is a remote plant located approximately 30 air miles from Juneau.  Employees are required to reside at the Project in a company provided two-room furnished apartment.  Work schedule is 10-hour days, eight days on and six days off.  Transportation to and from the Project is supplied by AEL&P via small fixed-wing aircraft.  Applicant must be willing to travel via charter aircraft, both fixed-wing and helicopter, in order to carry out the responsibilities of the job.  Valid Alaska driver's license required.

This position is represented by IBEW Local #1547.   Wages and benefits are per the IBEW/AEL&P Labor Agreement.  Current journeyman wage is $36.67.  Wage is 95% of journeyman until qualified as Powerplant Operator.
