Interim vs. permanent rates

Deadline extended
Aug. 26, 2011 -- The Regulatory Commission of Alaska
has extended the Aug. 26, 2011 deadline for one week. The
revised deadline is now Sept. 2, 2011.
RCA ORDER #14
ORDER EXTENDING STATUTORY TIMELINE WITH CONSENT
OF PARTIES AND EXTENDING TARIFF SUSPENSION
BY THE COMMISSION:
"The current timeline for issuance of a final order in this
docket is Aug. 26, 2011. However, we may extend this
timeline with the consent of all parties of record. Alaska
Electric Light and Power Company, the Attorney General, and
Juneau Peoples' Power Project are the parties of record in this
proceeding and they have consented to an extension of the
statutory timeline until Sept. 2, 2011."

Final decision delayed
July 27, 2011 -- The
original deadline has been extended by the Regulatory Commission
of Alaska for 30 days, putting the new deadline no later than
Aug. 26, 2011. For August, AEL&P will continue billing under
the approved interim rate as we have for the past year.
RCA grants interim increase
July 16, 2010
-- The Regulatory Commission of Alaska has granted AEL&P an interim rate
increase of 20% on energy and demand charges.
This rate increase is immediately effective and will be reflected
on bills mailed on Monday, July 19th.
If the RCA later approves permanent rates that are lower than the
interim rates, the difference will be repaid to our customers with
interest.
We know that no one
wants to pay more for electricity.
However, this interim rate increase helps to bring our rates more
in line with the true cost of providing service to our customers.
We look forward to
working with the RCA as the rate case process continues.
This is one of the most complex rate cases AEL&P has ever filed
and we are prepared for a thoughtful and rigorous review.
The RCA has scheduled a final decision on this rate filing by
July 27 of next year.
