AEL&P estimates June rates

May 27, 2008 -- AEL&P announced today a revised estimate for the Emergency Cost of Power Adjustment (ECOPA) to be effective for bills rendered between June 16 and July 15.  The new estimate for the ECOPA is 10 cents per kWh, much lower than the 30 cents per kWh estimated shortly after the avalanche.  When added to the normal summer rate of 8 cents per kWh, the total rate will be around 18 cents per kWh.  The lower estimate is the result of lower estimated diesel use due mainly to the shorter repair period.

"Even though this is just an estimate, we wanted the community to know that the financial impact will not be as severe as we originally estimated," said Tim McLeod, President and General Manager of AEL&P.  "Having the repairs completed ahead of schedule will save millions of dollars for families and businesses in Juneau."

This effective rate of 18 cents is an estimate at this time.  Changes in the repair schedule, or the cost or amount of diesel fuel will change the ECOPA rate.  The ECOPA rate will be finalized in a filing with the Regulatory Commission of Alaska in the second week of June.  The ECOPA is changed every 30 days to reflect changes in the estimated cost of diesel generation and estimated sales for the next month.
