May 24, 2008 -- AEL&P announced today a revised schedule for repair of the transmission line damaged in the April 16th avalanche.  The new schedule calls for reconnecting to Snettisham by June 8th.

"Several factors have contributed to this change," said Scott Willis, AEL&P spokesman.  "The contractor on site has worked hard and made good progress.  The original schedule also included a contingency for poor weather and repair to damaged foundations.  We've been fortunate that damage to the foundations was minimal, and that we have had very few weather delays."

The two remaining replacement towers were set in place on Friday and Saturday.  Achieving this milestone has removed some of the uncertainty in the schedule, said Willis.  The next major phase is to pull the conductor (wire) from tower to tower.

The revised schedule means that the total cost for diesel during this emergency, and the Emergency Cost of Power Adjustment effective in mid-June will be lower than originally anticipated.  AEL&P is currently revising its estimates and will release these revisions early next week.
