To our AEL&P Customers,

Electric rates

The Regulatory Commission of Alaska approved our request to postpone the effective date of the Emergency Power Cost Adjustment (EPCA) so it would impact bills starting May 16, one month after the avalanche that severed our transmission line from the Snettisham Hydroelectric Facility.

Many of you registered concerns about not having a full month to conserve given the timing of the avalanche and the original effective date for issuing bills on the EPCA.  Once sufficient financing was in place, it became possible to extend the effective date by two weeks.  AEL&P acted quickly to offer the commission an option to make billings as equitable as possible.

Your willingness to conserve may make this town famous in the eyes of energy conservation professionals.  Juneau holds a new record for our quick response.  Thank you, and keep up the good work.  Every kilowatt-hour you save is one less you are paying for, is one less we need to produce, and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
