Community Picnic and Gold Creek Hydro Plant Tours

As part of our 125th anniversary we celebrated by hosting a community picnic at Cope Park. AEL&P employees (along with family members) served a hot lunch off the grill. We had giveaways and guided tours of our historic Gold Creek Hydro Plant, originally built in 1896. The turn-out and interest in our company and its 125-year history serving this community was amazing! The long line of people who came early for a chance to receive one of the 125 AEL&P and Alaskan Brewing Co. Gold Creek Ale commemorative pint glass we were giving away was impressive. Thanks to all who came to celebrate this significant milestone with us!

Gold Creek Hydro Plant Tours

In 1894, the original Gold Creek Power House was built near Evergreen Bowl, today known as Cope Park. Two years later, in 1896, the current Gold Creek Hydro Power Plant was built and is still in operation today. The community showed great interest in the plant and its history during the picnic. AEL&P’s knowledgeable generation staff was on hand to give tours and to answer questions.
