POSITION SUMMARY:
This position reports to the General Foreman and works under the direction of the Crew Foreman or Leadman. Duties include construction and maintenance of underground and overhead lines, substations, and other tasks assigned by the VP of T&D, T&D Electrical Engineer, or the T&D General Foreman. The applicant must be available to respond to emergency call outs and occasionally stay at remote work sites.
KEY or ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Working on a line crew to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
As assigned by T&D General Foreman.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant must possess a current Power Lineman Journeyman certificate of fitness in Alaska, Class A commercial driver’s license, Medical Examiner’s Certificate, and First Aid and CPR card. Must authorize pre-employment release of Department of Motor Vehicles (DOT) records to validate insurability according to Company practice. Successful applicant must pass a pre-employment drug test, and if hired, subsequent random DOT drug testing.
EQUIPMENT UTILIZED:
Applicants must be competent in the operation of boom trucks, aerial lift trucks, digger derricks, excavators, backhoes, flatbeds, pulling and tensioning equipment, splicing presses, forklifts, and air and hydraulic tools.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The work requires the ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds. Applicant should be able to climb poles, structures, and ladders; climb on, off and around trucks and other equipment; and work in elevated positions up to 150 feet.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
For an employee to succeed in this position they will need to demonstrate a high level of teamwork, maintain a positive attitude in stressful conditions and in potentially adverse weather conditions, and possess a strong work ethic. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively. The applicant must be able to recognize hazardous conditions, maintain alertness and safety awareness while working.

COMPENSATION:
This position is covered by the terms of the agreement between Alaska Electric Light & Power Company and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union #1547. Hourly wage is the Journeyman Lineman rate in accordance with the current agreement effective through March 31, 2027.
